Public Reporting Portal · Auto-Repair Fraud

If you’ve been scammed, the documentation starts here.

EthicalMechanic.org accepts and reviews reports from anyone — customer, employee, witness — with evidence of fraud, misrepresentation, or harm involving an auto repair operation. Approved reports become part of the documented record on the mechanic’s public listing.

We do not delegate trust decisions to algorithms. Your report goes to a human reviewer.

Tell us what happened. Be specific. Tell us when. Tell us where. Show us what you have. We treat your report as evidence, not as feedback.

§ I.

The subject of the report

Search our directory for the business. If they’re already on file we’ll attach your report to that record. If not, fill in the details manually — we’ll open a new file.

§ II.

The incident

Describe what occurred in your own words. Specific dates, dollar amounts, and quoted statements help reviewers verify and act.

§ III.

Evidence

Receipts, photos of damage, screenshots of texts, invoices, voice memos. Any artifact that supports your story.

Evidence Bag
JPG, PNG, WEBP, PDF, MP4, M4A, MP3 · max 25 MB per file. We accept up to 8 items.
§ IV.

Your identity

Approved reports become a permanent part of a mechanic’s public record. Before that happens, a real reviewer at Ethical Mechanic verifies your story — that means we need real, reachable contact info on file.

Your privacy on this report — guaranteed
  • Your identity is never shown to the mechanic. Not now, not ever.
  • Your identity is never made public. Approved reports appear on the mechanic’s listing attributed only as “Verified Reporter.”
  • Internal use only — our reviewers may contact you to corroborate the report (clarifying questions, evidence verification, follow-up).
Why this is required: if we can’t reach you, or your story can’t be corroborated, the report is dropped. A scam report with no path to verification is just an empty complaint — and we don’t publish complaints.
Helpful when written follow-up is unclear — reviewers may call to corroborate.
§ V.

Affirmation

I affirm under penalty of perjury that the information I’ve provided in this report is true to the best of my knowledge, and that I am the person who experienced or witnessed the incident described.

A reviewer at Ethical Mechanic will examine your submission. Reviews typically finish within 1–2 business days. We’ll email you at the address you provided once a decision is made.

  1. Human review. A real person at Ethical Mechanic opens the file and examines every piece of evidence you provided.
  2. Cross-checks. If we find related reports or licensing inconsistencies, the reviewer ties them together.
  3. Outcome. If approved and the business is on file, the report is added to their public record and visible to future customers. If we need clarification, the reviewer emails you.

Terms of Use

§ I. What You’re Getting

A fast, AI-generated snapshot of publicly available information about a mechanic — business registration, online reputation, certifications, and red flags. It’s a screening tool, not a court-admissible verdict. Treat it as one signal among many.

§ II. What the AI Can’t See

We don’t have real-time access to government licensing databases, court records, or sealed BBB complaints. Some businesses keep deliberately thin online footprints. The AI can also misread or miss things. Always verify a mechanic’s credentials directly with your state licensing authority before any major decision.

§ III. Use It Right

This tool is for personal consumer research — you, looking at a mechanic. Don’t use it to harass anyone, defame a business, sabotage a competitor, or scrape reports in bulk. Misuse will get your access cut off.

§ IV. Your Data

We store your email so we can deliver the report and re-send it if needed. Reports are kept for up to seven days, then archived. We don’t sell your data, share it with the mechanic being verified, or hand it to advertisers.

§ V. The Fine Print

Reports are informational. Ethical Mechanic isn’t liable for decisions you make based on what they say. If you spot something inaccurate about a business in a report, email us and we’ll review it.
