§ I. Account Identity
The email address tied to this account. Used for sign-in, claim notifications, and reviewer correspondence. Email changes require contacting support so we can verify identity.

Set a new password. We don’t store password hints; pick something only you would type.
§ III. Email Notifications
Critical operational emails — account, claim, and credential decisions — are always sent and cannot be disabled. Marketing email preferences are managed via the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any marketing message we send.

§ IV. Termination
Deleting your account unclaims your business file. The listing itself stays in the directory.
Ethical Mechanic is a public-record consumer-protection directory — we do not remove listings on operator request. We can’t. If we did, any operator with a bad review or a complaint could simply “delete” their listing and reappear in days under a slightly different name.
What deleting your account does do:
- Removes your operator account — you’ll no longer be able to sign in.
- Unlinks you from the listing — it returns to unclaimed status.
- Resets the trust score to a neutral 50/100 · C · Insufficient Data — the same baseline every unclaimed listing gets.
- Strips your verified-mechanic badge and any earned credential badges.
- Purges your uploaded photo ID and personal documents from our storage.
- Leaves the public listing (business name, city, state, public phone / website) on record. Customers can still look up the business and trigger a fact-finding report.
- Any future operator can claim the listing again through the standard claim-and-verify process.
Account deletion is processed by a human operator. Submit the request below and we’ll confirm by email before executing. Allow 1–2 business days.
